The Year Of White Tiger

올해는 십간십이지(十干十二支)의 경인(庚寅)에 해당한다.

경의 색은 백색이니, 경인은 곧 백호(白虎)이다.

12년 주기의 호랑이의 해, 60년 만에 온 백호의 해이다.

십간십이지 (十干十二支)란 역법에 쓰이는 주기(週期)를 말하며
음양(陰陽)과 오행(五行)이 결부되어 있다.

십간은 갑(甲) ·을(乙) ·병(丙) ·정(丁) ·무(戊) ·기(己) ·경(庚)

·신(辛)·임(壬) ·계(癸)이며,

십이지는 자(子) ·축(丑) ·인(寅) ·묘(卯) ·진(辰) ·사(巳) ·오(午)

·미(未)·신(申) ·유(酉) ·술(戌) ·해(亥)로서

십이지수(十二支獸)라고 하여 동물과 결합되어 있다.

십간과 십이지를 조합하면 갑자,을축,병인등으로

60개의 간지(干支)를 얻는다.

호랑이는 우리 민족의 삶과 깊이 연관되어 있다.

단군신화를 비롯하여 수 많은 설화에 등장하며, 서울 올림픽 때는

호돌이 마스코트로 사랑 받았다.

경인년 새해를 맞으며 호랑이의 웅혼한 기상을 생각한다.

백호는 청룡(靑龍)· 주작(朱雀)· 현무(玄武)와 더불어
하늘의 동서남북을 지키는 신(神)이기도 하다.

Like a language that we could all understand
I remember the day when I earned my first pay
As I played in a small pickup band
There I spent my youth and to tell you the truth
I was sad to leave it all behind me
For I'd learned about life and I'd found a wife
In the town I loved so well.

But when I returned how my eyes were burned
To see how a town could be brought to it's knees
By the armoured cars and the bombed out bars
And the gas that hangs on to every breeze
Now the army's installed by that old gasyard wall
And the damned barbed wire gets higher and higher
With their tanks and guns,oh my God,what have they done
To the town I loved so well.

Now the music's gone but they carry on
For their spirit's been bruised, never broken
Oh, they'll not forget still their hearts are set
On tomorrow and peace once again
Now what's done is done and what's won is won
And what's lost is lost and gone forever
I can only pray for a bright brand new day
