Shel Silverstein wrote this song, which is about a woman who lives
a comfortable, middle class lifestyle, but goes crazy.
Although Lucy Jordan climbs onto the roof she doesn't jump
but is taken away in an ambulance - to a mental hospital.
When she climbs into the ambulance she is so far gone that she
imagines she is riding through Paris in a sports car, something she
had always dreamed about, as stated in the song.

연날리기

설 연휴에 연을 만들었다.
방패연. 크기는 390* 465 mm.
처음에는 살이 두꺼워서 인지 잘 뜨지 않아 다시 만들었다.
얼레까지 사흘 정도 걸린 셈이다.

연날리기는 한국의 민속놀이로 흔히 정월 초하루부터
대보름까지 날리며, 한 해의 소망을 담는다.
대보름 해질 무렵이면 연실을 끊어 멀리 날려 보내기도 한다.
이는 액을 쫓는 주술적인 의미로, 온갖 재앙을 연에 실어
날려 보내고 복을 맞아 들인다는 뜻이다.

연싸움은 대표적인 연놀이의 하나로, 두개 혹은 그 이상의
연이 서로 연실을 비벼서 끊어먹기를 겨룬다.
연싸움에서는 연을 자유자재로 조정할 수 있는 기술이
있어야 하고, 바람의 흐름을 이해하고 이를 잘 이용 할 수
있어야 한다.

연싸움에서 우리 조상의 마음씨를 엿볼 수 있다.
이기거나 진 쪽이 한 턱 내기 마련인데, 전자는 진 쪽의 연이
이긴 쪽을 위하여 먼 하늘로 길보를 전하러 갔다고
여기는 것이고, 후자는 이긴 쪽이 진 쪽을 위해 연을 끊어
주어 액땜을 대신 해 주었다고 여기는 것이다.
어느 경우든 생각의 중심에는 남을 배려하는 마음이 있다.
